  The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. The Institute is composed of the following four departments:

  • The Department of Infectious Diseases
  • The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
  • The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
  • The Department of Laboratory Medicine

  At present, the institute has about 340 employees and approximately 450 million SEK in total assets.

  Salivary gland tumors are a heterogeneous group of tumors originating in the salivary glands of the head and neck region. The prognosis for patients with malignant salivary gland tumors is typically very poor, as there are no effective treatments for recurrent or metastatic disease. The treatments currently used (surgery and radiation therapy) are also often disfiguring from both a functional and aesthetic perspective. The research group has extensive experience studying salivary gland tumors and has identified several driving genomic alterations in these tumors.

  Duties 

  We are looking for a researcher to help develop a new targeted treatment for salivary gland tumors. As part of the project, the researcher will plan, design, and conduct research that includes, among other things, the culture of primary/short-term-cultured tumor cells in 2D and 3D models, drug treatment/screening, proliferation/apoptosis/spheroid assays, quantitative PCR, RNA-seq, and immunoblot analysis. The duties also include project management, supervision, and written and oral reporting of research data.

  Qualifications 

  A Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., biomedicine or molecular biology) is required. Postdoctoral research experience in the field is preferred. Previous experience with cell-based assays, in vitro drug treatment, and the culture of salivary gland tumor cells is highly preferred. The position requires a high degree of precision, independence, and initiative. Applicants should also possess strong collaborative skills and a problem-solving mindset. We will place great emphasis on personal fit. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required, as we work in an international environment.

  Employment 

  This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 11 months, based at the Institute of Biomedicine, Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research. The start date is to be agreed upon.

  Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper är en av sex institutioner vid Sahlgrenska akademin vid Göteborgs universitet. Genom ett berikande samarbete med sjukvården och Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhuset har vi utvecklat samprojekt och mötesplatser som gynnar både vården och forskningen.

  Vi söker nu en amanuens för arbete i Peter Naredis forskargrupp vid Avdelningen för kirurgi.

  Analys av p38-MAP-kinashämmare för att förbättra cisplatinets effekt:

  Peter Naredis forskargrupp studerar verkningsmekanismerna hos cancermedicinen cisplatin, med fokus på den cellbiologiska grunden för dess funktion och på att identifiera signalvägar som påverkar responsen hos rundmasken C. elegans. Cisplatin är ett vanligt förekommande läkemedel mot cancer vars cytotoxiska effekter regleras av intracellulära signalvägar. En av de signalvägar som identifierats är p38-MAP-kinasvägen. Nedreglering av denna signalväg leder till ökad känslighet för cisplatin.

  p38-MAP-kinasvägen har identifierats som en viktig regulator av cisplatinresponsen hos såväl C. elegans som humana tumörceller.

  Kunskap om hur denna signalväg kan påverkas kan leda till förbättrade behandlingsstrategier. Med hjälp av en humaniserad p38-MAP-kinasmodell har forskargruppen testat hämmare i syfte att bedriva translationell forskning för att göra cisplatin mer effektivt. Liknande arbete pågår även kring en annan genetisk signalväg som påverkar cisplatinresponsen.

  Arbetsuppgifter

  Amanuensen kommer att bidra till pågående forskningsprojekt i laboratoriet och medverka i experimentellt arbete. Arbetsuppgifterna omfattar:

  • Genomförande av läkemedelsbehandlingar och cytotoxicitetsanalyser.
  • Analys av genuttryck med hjälp av kvantitativ PCR (qPCR).
  • Proteinanalyser, inklusive Western blot.
  • Arbete med fluorescensmikroskopi samt bildinsamling.
  • Dokumentation och löpande uppdatering av laboratoriejournaler och forskningsdata.
  • Presentation av experimentella resultat och projektframsteg vid forskargruppsmöten.

  Kvalifikationer

  För att vara behörig för en anställning som amanuens ska den sökande vara antagen på grundnivå eller avancerad nivå och förväntas studera under anställningstiden. Den sammanlagda anställningstiden för en amanuens får omfatta högst tre år.

  För anställningen krävs att du har dokumenterad erfarenhet av laboratoriearbete med Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) som modellsystem, inklusive odling, genetiska korsningar och läkemedelstestning. Du ska även ha praktisk erfarenhet av cytotoxicitetsanalyser samt molekylärbiologiska metoder såsom RNA- och DNA-extraktion, RNA-rening, qPCR och proteinanalyser, inklusive Western blot.

  Vidare krävs erfarenhet av fluorescensmikroskopi för analys av genuttryck. God förmåga att arbeta strukturerat, noggrant och självständigt enligt givna instruktioner och etablerade rutiner är en förutsättning för anställningen.

  Anställningen kräver även god datorvana samt mycket god förmåga att kommunicera i tal och skrift på engelska. Kunskaper i svenska är meriterande.

  Följande erfarenheter och kunskaper är meriterande:

  • Erfarenhet av statistisk analys med programvaror såsom GraphPad Prism.
  • Erfarenhet av bildanalysprogramvara.
  • Förmåga att läsa, kritiskt granska och presentera vetenskapliga artiklar.
  • Ytterligare erfarenhet av fluorescensmikroskopi och avancerade laboratorietekniker inom molekylärbiologi.
