Welcome to SSC Space (formerly Swedish Space Corporation), the perfect workplace for those passionate about technology in general and space in particular. With space organizations, research institutes, institutional and commercial actors as customers, we offer specialist expertise in satellite communications, spacecraft consulting services, rocket and balloon systems, and much more.
Would you like to help develop a workplace where people, technology, and space come together? At SSC Space, you will have the opportunity to contribute to something that truly makes a difference – Help Earth Benefit from Space.
We are now looking for a Ground Safety Engineer who shares our values – Customer Passion, Care, Collaboration, Curiosity, and Courage – and wants to play an important role in our continued growth and development within space technology and launch operations.
REQUIREMENTS
Do you want a job where safety and space truly come together? As a Ground Safety Engineer in our Launch Team, you will play a key role in making our rocket and balloon launch campaigns possible.
In this position, you will work closely with the operational team and have a clear purpose: to ensure a safe and secure environment during our campaigns. Your responsibilities will span the entire process - from planning and preparation to being present during launch operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning, assessing risks, and preparing ground safety activities ahead of campaigns.
- Participating operationally during rocket and balloon launch campaigns.
- Maintaining and further developing the systems and equipment used during launch operations.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of safety routines and working practices.
At SSC Space, you will receive comprehensive onboarding and training to enable you to take responsibility for ground safety during our campaigns. This is a unique opportunity to combine technology, safety, and hands-on work in an environment unlike any other in the world.
The role also involves operational work on-site during rocket and balloon campaigns, requiring flexibility in both working methods and working hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To succeed in this role, we believe you are someone who thrives in a dynamic environment. You are flexible, solution-oriented, and comfortable quickly shifting your focus when circumstances require it. You have a strong technical interest and a safety mindset that comes naturally to you.
We would like you to have:
- A degree in Engineering or equivalent experience within a relevant technical field.
- Experience in safety-related work, risk assessments, or working in environments where safety is a key priority.
- A good understanding of safe working practices and operational procedures.
- Proficiency in both Swedish and English, spoken and written.
- The ability to work flexible hours during campaign periods.
Most importantly, we value your attitude and your willingness to contribute to a safe and successful team environment.
BENEFITS
We offer you
- A unique opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects and play an active role in both the Swedish and international space industry.
- An excellent opportunity for personal and career development.
- An exciting, international workplace characterized by an open atmosphere and proud employees all over the world.
Additional benefits
- In addition to vacation and traditional public holidays, we offer extra paid leave throughout the year, such as time off between Christmas and New Year, Ascension Day, amounting to 6-11 extra days depending on the calendar.
- Wellness allowance of SEK 5,000 per year.
- Health benefits such as voluntary health insurance and regular health checks for eligible employees.
- Access to a benefit bike through a tax-efficient leasing program.
- Convenient staff transportation between Kiruna and Esrange Space Center at a subsidized cost, making commuting easier for employees based in the Kiruna area.
- Support for employee-driven activities that promote connection, health, and culture across teams.
- Collective Agreement, including good pensions plans, parental pay and insurance.
LOCATION
This is a full-time position based at Esrange Space Center outside Kiruna, where you will work at the heart of our operations.
